The start of a new year is the perfect time to take a closer look at your life. Are there any things you would like to change? Do you want to simplify your life in 2021? If so, here are some simple things you can do to get you on track.
Set weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly goals
Studies show that New Year’s resolutions don’t work. Instead, focus on setting short-term goals that are easier to follow and manage. The key is making small, incremental changes that can help you make progress and celebrate achievements more often. When we are successful, it motivates us to keep going. An example could be running four days this week or taking a certain number of steps each day. Another option is to add more vegetables to your meals. Set goals that are achievable, but with a little effort. It helps to have a family member or friend as your responsible partner. Setting and achieving goals gives us a sense of accomplishment and puts our life at the center. Being unfocused can put a strain on our lives.
Take care of your finances
It is easy to get things out of hand when it comes to our finances. The best way to be in control is to create a budget and keep track of everything you are spending in a month. There are many ways to create a budget. The easiest way is to list your income and expenses. The hope is that your expenses will be less than your income, leaving money to be saved. Sometimes it is necessary to increase your income by doing a part-time job or by cutting unnecessary expenses. Keeping track of your expenses can be an eye-opening experience. On a daily basis, list every penny of the money you spend, whether it is a bill or various expenses. At the end of a month, you will have a realistic picture of where your money is going and what you need to do to make adjustments. When our finances are in order, a burden that contributes to the simplification of life is lifted.
Work on slowing down
Life isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. Many of us are rushing through life, trying to do so much at once and not feeling fulfilled. In what areas of your life are you in a hurry? Do you take time to be still and reflect, enjoy the outdoors, hang out with friends, or just have a good laugh? What do you like to do? How often do you do it What makes you happy These are very deep questions. When we think about them and answer them honestly, it helps us really live rather than just exist.
Take some time today to think about how you can simplify your life. I wish you peace, health and happiness in 2021.
