Rocky Ford hosts 2021 Entrepreneur Business Forum

Chad Scott’s multimillion-dollar business idea came while designing high school baseball posters with a friend in a dorm room.

“My mom called me and said, ‘Hey Chad, I need 30 of these. Everybody wants to buy one,” Scott said.

Scott is the founder and owner of Ultimate Team Products, a business specializing in custom youth sports posters, banners and socks. He is also the author of “The Poster Boy: Small Towns, Big Ideas, and the Reality of Becoming an Entrepreneur,” where he details his journey from being a kid in rural Missouri to owner of a business with global impact.

“I picked watermelons when I was in high school; when I was strong enough to throw them …” Scott said. “I always had this dream of getting out of a small town … It didn’t have to be that way, but I didn’t realize that at the time. Whenever you grow up in a small town … the hardest thing to wrap your mind around is that you can do everything in a small town that you can do in a city.”

Scott, a native of Kennett, Missouri, will be the guest speaker at an Entrepreneur Business Forum Event Wednesday, June 23 in Rocky Ford. The full-day event will include a Youth Entrepreneur Business Forum for 5th- to 12th-grade students from 1-4 p.m. followed by an Entrepreneur Business Forum for all to attend from 7-9 p.m.

“What I was getting at about being able to run (the business) in my small town … Had I have known how to do research, had I known how to seek knowledge, had I have been an avid reader, had I have understood that at that age; I would have probably never left,” Scott said.

At each forum, Scott will discuss how to develop a lucrative business and offer practical advice for getting an idea off the ground, whether the plan is to stay in a small town or leave for a big city. The event offers lessons for start-ups and already established businesses. Both Forums will be at the Otero County Annex Community Room on 411 North St.

Forums are free, open to the public, and will include light refreshments. Scott will also be signing copies of “The Poster Boy” for participants. For additional information about the Entrepreneur Business Forum, YEP director Julie Worley can be contacted at
