More than 86 lakh rice farmers benefited from the current procurement activities of the Kharif Marketing Season: Govt
The government has stated that to date around 86 lakh 79,000 farmers have benefited from ongoing Kharif Marketing Season procurement operations with an MSP of over one lakh 12,000 709 crore rupees. A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture said paddy sourcing for Kharif 2020-21 would go smoothly in sourcing states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra continues to Bihar, Assam, Karnataka and West Bengal. To date, over 596.98 lakh metric tons of rice have been procured. This is an 18.92 percent increase over the equivalent purchase of 501.97 lakh metric tons of paddy last year.
The ministry said that of the total purchase of 596.98 lakh tons, Punjab alone contributed 202.77 lakh tons, which is 33.96 percent of the total procurement. On the basis of the states’ proposal, the Ministry has been given approval to source 51.92 lakh tons of pulses and oilseeds for the 2020 Kharif marketing season for the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh as part of the price support program.
