ATLANTA / MACON – The Mercer Innovation Center is looking for students with innovative business ideas to participate in its virtual elevator pitch competition, which will take place on February 26th at 6pm via Zoom.
Currently enrolled Mercer students and graduates from all locations, majors, and grade years are eligible to participate. The winners will receive up to $ 500 in prizes for their ideas.
“The goal of the Elevator Pitch competition is for our students to have a forum where they can practice clearly describing their ideas and get feedback,” said Dr. Briana Stenard, Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at the Stetson-Hatcher School of Business. “The concept behind an elevator parking space is that you can get on the elevator with someone and have explained your idea so effectively and precisely that by the time they reached the floor they would be interested enough to learn more.”
Students can take part in the competition until February 12th by submitting a short entry form at mic.mercer.edu under the “Elevator Pitch Competition” tab at the top of the page.
After registration, a video pitch of no more than two minutes is due on February 19.
“When students have an idea they’re thinking about, we want them to take the first step and submit their idea to the competition,” said Dr. Stenard. “One of our main goals this year is interdisciplinary ideas and we want students from all over the university to participate. This is one of the reasons we will be awarding multiple winners to try and promote a variety of new ideas. We are curious what our students will come up with! “
The Elevator Pitch competition precedes the Mercer Innovation Center’s annual Next Big Idea competition on April 16. Students are eligible to submit ideas for both competitions. The next Big Idea entries will require more elaboration, including an online application, one-page business canvas, and a summary.
