Former CMO50 Marketing Award as Head of ThinkNewsBrands

ThinkNewsBrands has named former AUB and Wilson Parking Marketing Director Vanessa Lyons as its new General Manager in a new initiative that encourages advertisers to support news media publications.

Lyons has more than 20 years of experience in marketing, including as General Manager Marketing and Customer Experience at Wilson Parking Australia and Group Leader Marketing for the ASX-listed insurance organization AUB Group. In both roles, Lyon was recognized in the CMO50 of Australia’s Most Innovative and Effective Marketing Managers in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

She also held marketing and strategy roles at Telstra, Superpartners and Philips in A / NZ as well as Discover Financial Services in the US. Lyons returns to the workforce after taking time off to fight cancer.

The role at ThinkNewsBrands is focused on transforming the perception of the value news brands can deliver to marketers in both print and digital and expand the company’s presence. The job starts this week and is based in Melbourne.

ThinkNewsBrands debuted as the new name for NewsMediaWorks in February 2020 and has media owners Nine, News Corp Australia and the Western Australian newspapers of Seven West Media as shareholders. The operational unit is part of the Premium Content Alliance, which also includes Think TV and the recently launched ThinkPremiumDigital. It was previously headed by Peter Miller, who has since headed strategy for the entire group.

It is something I really appreciate being able to provide balanced and ethical information in a timely manner – and through the medium that an audience chooses as opposed to a medium chosen for them, ”said Lyon.

We are very fortunate to have a free press and it is worth protecting. My energy is focused on generating the recognition and sales that news brands deserve and showing commercial organizations that news is a powerful option in any marketing toolkit. ”
