eBay has a new Chief Marketing Officer following the departure of Suzy Deering who will also oversee the seller community and eBay Canada.
eBay has promoted an executive to a newly combined role that may usher in a new era of communication with sellers.
eBay has named Andrea Stairs as the new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Vice President of the Seller Community for the North American market. It seems to have a threefold role: Her LinkedIn profile also shows that she continues to be the President of eBay Canada, leaving her a very full plate.
Stairs has been on eBay since 2005 and has an institutional memory so she may have a better understanding of the needs and wants of buyers and sellers.
A year ago, Stairs took over as marketing director for eBay North America, shortly after eBay reportedly laid off many of its marketing staff.
Former eBay CMO Suzy Deering left the company late last year and joined Ford Motor Company this month as Global Chief Marketing Officer. This has contributed to the extreme sales among eBay’s top managers since 2019.
It’s not clear whether Stairs will report directly to CEO Jamie Iannone or instead to eBay’s new Global Chief Growth Officer, Julie Loeger, who joined eBay this month to oversee global marketing and customer experience.
The following is an excerpt from the introductory message from Stairs:
“As CMO, I am responsible for buy-side marketing – which I would translate to ensure that traffic is efficiently directed to your offers and the market. But also as VP of the Seller Community for North America, I’m here to serve as your voice. I have the deepest appreciation for what you do and bring to market, and have attended countless eBay seller events over the years and supported our government efforts to influence policies that benefit small businesses and entrepreneurs. Some of the topics that are close to my heart include inventory, cross-border trading, and seller experiences on the website. However, what really matters to me is the dedication, expertise and dedication you put in every day. “
