Bitcoin has crossed the magic limit of $ 50,000.
It feels surreal, but also when Bitcoin hit $ 10,000 for the first time in 2017 and $ 20,000 in 2020. The digital currency, which is often dismissed as a bubble, keeps coming back.
Bitcoin’s total market capitalization – the collective value of all bitcoins in existence – is dangerously close to $ 1 trillion. According to CoinGecko, the value is currently over $ 930 billion.
Despite the price increase over the years, Bitcoin is still very volatile. The price of a Bitcoin briefly hit $ 50,689 on the popular Binance exchange, but fell just as quickly and is around $ 49,500 at the time of writing.
